Glacier National Park – Part 2

 

July 15th was the beginning of GREAT weather in Glacier. The most popular hike in Glacier is the hike from the Logan Pass Visitor Center to Hidden Lakes Overlook. It is a nearly guaranteed place to see Mountain Goats. Unfortunately, is is so popular that there are times when the parking lot is closed due to it being full. When we were here in 1999 we were unable to get in to the lot to do this hike so we made it our first priority.

How difficult the hike is depends on how much snow there is and the condition of the snow.

As you can see this is a truly spectacular hike. We also saw marmots, and a Big Horn Sheep while on the hike.

Bird Note: We saw several Gray-crowned Rosy-Finches while on the hike. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to get any good photos. These birds are only found near retreating ice fields; the last time we saw them was at Tioga Pass just outside Yosemite about 7 years ago.
